We list select units on eBay that meet or beat our customer's high standards. Don't settle on less than the best with your vehicle purchase. New inventory is added daily to our eBay Store. Our typical eBay offered automobile is a one owner or off-lease, late model, with good mileage.

While most off-road trucking enthusiasts might view a 4x4 truck that is both a powerful off-road truck and a fuel efficient hybrid vehicle as a bit of a contradiction in terms, Chevrolet has managed to pull off the feat fairly convincingly with the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid. Released in 2009 to a skeptical public, the Silverado Hybrid managed to largely win over the majority of the serious trucking public, ushering in what promises to be a future generation of hybrid 4X4 vehicles designed to deliver optimal off road performance and excellent towing capacity with increased fuel efficiency. If you just don't see how a hybrid engine can deliver solid towing and off road performance with the technology that is currently available on the market, the proof is in the numbers.

Unlike most other segments of the hybrid automobile market, the percentage of people who purchase pickup trucks in today's society just for day-to-day driving is relatively small. While plenty of people enjoyed owning and operating pickup trucks for regular road driving a decade or two ago, most of that market share has transitioned to sports utility vehicles, leaving the vast majority of truck buyers as being individuals and business owners who depend upon their trucks to deliver solid performance both for highway hauling and dirty off road jobs. With this in mind, you have to hand it to Chevrolet for pulling off a hybrid automobile that actually delivers results to hardcore truck owners.

The Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is the perfect vehicle for anyone who is looking for a powerful, full sized pickup truck that combines fuel efficiency with rough and tumble design to let you get the job done. It remains to be seen whether the cowboy mentality of many pickup truck owners will come around to accepting that a hybrid engine could have the torque and power to deliver when it counts. However, the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is already catching on with business owners who operate a fleet of vehicles and have more of an interest in their bottom line than a need for overt displays of machismo. The truth of the matter is that the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid has the solid feel and power of a non-hybrid truck while using as gasoline as possible. Now that we have all seen gasoline approach $4.00 a gallon in recent years, the fuel efficiency offered by this automotive technology it hard to ignore no matter what your views on the environment might be.

As far as mileage goes, the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid offers 21 miles per gallon in city driving and 22 miles per gallon out on the highway, even when it is towing a load of up to 6000 pounds behind it. If you choose to go with the four wheel drive model, that fuel efficiency drops a little bit down to about 20 miles per gallon both city and highway with a towing capacity of around 5900 pounds. To put that in perspective, the Toyota Prius achieves a fuel economy of between 40 and 55 miles per gallon, depending on how the vehicle is being used, and the automotive industry has yet to make a standard pickup with any sort of towing capacity that could deliver anywhere near 20 miles a gallon. While a Prius might have better efficiency than a hybrid pickup, a Prius simply is not designed for much more than daily commutes. Assuming that you clocking approximately 10,000 miles per year, the fuel efficiency that is offered by the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid will save you about 140 gallons of gasoline per year when compared to a similar non-hybrid, full size pickup truck.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Hybrid is priced at just about $39,000, with a full loaded truck with all of the luxury accessories coming in at just short of $45,000. However, federal and state tax credits and stimulus rebates that were recently put in place to encourage consumers to make the switch to fuel efficient vehicles can take a little bit off of your bottom line if you know where to look.

I started my driveway build with a stock 1993 Chevy K1500 plow truck. The only working space I had was a single wide driveway as I don't have a garage to work in. My intensions were to build a 4X4 that would turn heads as well as perform.

First was to tear it down as far as I could. I replace the worn out suspension with all new poly bushings and new ball joints, tie rod ends, and shocks.

After the suspension was fixed up I moved to the motor replacing a tired 350ci with a remanufactured 350ci.

Once the running gear was ready I place a Escalade conversion kit on the front to give it a eye catching look as I have never seen a step side Escalade before. Although I have not completed this project due to the weather I am hoping to have it wrapped in midnight blue before June to finish it off right!

Go Big - Go Suburban - Go Suburban AND fit 49 inch tires! - That's BIG!

Kristjan Kristjansson - Stjani - has done just that. After spending countless hours and days in his garage his 49 inch modified GMC Suburban is now street legal again.

The reason I heard about Stjani's Suburban was that he was having an Atlas transfer case installed. The Atlas box replaces the original transfer case adding two extra low gears. This one has gearing for 2.7:1, 3.8:1 and 10.34:1. If the 10.34 to 1 is not low enough Stjani can engage his extra low gear of 2:1 for a grand total of 20.68 to 1!.

Stjani is working on the interior decoration. The three Atlas control sticks are located under the center console tray. Also visible is the VHF radio, air bag pressure meters and shock pressure meters.

His beefy tires need strong axles and driveline. Up front is a Dana 60 reverse with extra strong axles, air lockers and air bag suspension.

Rear axle is a 14 bolt GMC/Chevy - also with air lockers and air bag suspension.

Stjani took me for a short test run on his GMC Suburban. We got to a little use rock mine to get a feeling for its capabilities.

First test is for climbing a steep and loose slope with plenty of mud. With the help of the strong Duramax 6.6 engine and after airing down the tires a little he took the challenge with no problems and no unwanted tire spinning.

Next up was the flex test. Even though the balance bars are still connected the Sub flexes quite a bit. The left rear tire was starting to lift soon after this picture was shot! This is about as far as I would dare take it without rolling over.

49 inch Suburban - Off Road Tour Pictures

Last weekend Stjani took his Suburban along with two other trucks for a snow riding tour around Hofsjokull to the geological center of Iceland. One is a 6x6 Dodge Ram on 44 inch Trxus tires and the other a Nissan Patrol on 38 inch Monster Mudders.

Even though the Sub is quite heavy it showed that larger tires make it up in floatation. Going over this snow bridge proved easy by just going extremely slowly and with the aired down tires evening out the weight.

4x4 Off Roads!

Amazingly the tires don't look overly large for this truck. They just seem to be made for this SUV.

There is not much stopping this truck!

Kristjan standing in front of his Suburban.

Some trucks with larger tires seem to loose a lot of their highway driving capabilities but I can tell you that this Suburban is not one of them. In fact it rides just like a normal car - only difference is in the off road capabilities.

Hi my name is Clay, I started off last Summer season just busting buttons, after close to twenty years of giving 4X4 tours in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, I was finally getting a chance to drive a vehicle that was truly different. Over the years I have driven quite a variety of American made vehicles in these mountains, Jeep CJ 7s & 8s, J20 PUs and Cherokees, but the old war wagon that I have drived over black bear pass hundreds of times was the 80s era 3/4 ton leaf spring suspension, 350 V8, 4 speed tranny, open differential, you know old school all the way GMC/Chevy Suburban. But Dave of Dave's Mountain Tours of Telluride Colorado ( telluridetours.com ) had something new in store for me.

Pinzgauer VS Suburban

Pinzgauers are the Swiss Army's version of a Jeep or now days a Hummer and had a lot of features I was looking forward to experiencing. Since the San Juans are often referred to as the Switzerland of America we figured the Pinzy would be perfect for giving tours in them. Pinzys have Independent Suspension all the way around and Gear Reduction at the wheels which gives you gobs of clearance. They give you plenty of levers to play with, the Gear shift has a long linkage to the 5 speed Tranny and shifts much like a V.W, a mechanical lever that engages the low range and then across the dash are 3 hydraulic levers that with a quick flip will engage the 4X4 transfer case, lock the rear differential and lock the front differential. The drivers seat is located in front of the front tires which gives you an unobstructed view of the road as opposed to the Burb that has a huge hood out front, you learn to drive by braille. The air cooled, 96 H.P ( at sea level ) 4 cylinder, in line motor sits next to you under the dog house and they are built like a tractor with no frame, the drive train acting as the support structure. So you can see why I was so excited after logging so many miles in the big pig Burbs.

So early in June I get my first opportunity to try out what I figured was going to be the ultimate 4X4, but my infatuation soon began to diminish. On my way to Ophir pass ( we jokingly call it Oh-fear because it is so tame) I find 2 drawbacks, for one they have no power steering, a luxury I have grown to appreciate and typical of an air cooled engine, no heat to speak of, but these I could tolerate as long as they proved off road worthy. I soon realize the 96 H.P 4 banger lacks a little in the get up and go department so I shift it down into low range, and I go ahead and lock the transfer into 4X4, but I don't figure I will need to lock the differentials, it was never even an option in the old Burbs, but as the trail gets a little rough I find that the Pinzy breaking traction to beat all. Locking the rear differential cures the problem, but why is there a problem? I theorize that it must have to do with the Independent suspension, with the old school solid axle the leaf springs try to leverage the tires to the ground, the indy suspencion allows the tires to pretty much float around wherever, some times totally off the ground. I am starting to loose enthusiasm till I find a large snow drift across the road, I lock both diffs and let it churn its way through, now that's better, but without power steering it is a real work out so I disengage the front diff a.s.a.p.

<img title="This was taken from an over look on Imogene Pass looking over at the cliff face that Black Bear comes down and where all the switch backs are.
The next test, Imogene Pass, was soon open. Over all the Pinzy performed fairly well, all locked down it churned its way up the steep dump pile at the Smuggler Union mine, Burbs without lockers relied on momentum and brute H.P which they had. On the pull from the Tomboy mine at 11300 ft to the top of the pass at 13114 ft in less than a mile ( I call this vapor lock hill ) the pinzy broke no speed records, but pulled to the top without a hitch, but with like a sigh of relief, when I turn it off, it would wind down a bit then blow a big embarrassing back fire out the tail pipe.

This is a view of one of the Switch Backs on Black Bear, Not the tightest, but it looks cool in the Photo.

Black Bear pass, the grand daddy of them all, I have been over this hundreds of times, mostly in the big pig Burbs, so I was looking forward to trying the Pinzy and comparing its performance. As always my anxiety grew as I neared the stairsteps but after my traditional prayer I started down. The most positive thing was that it was sure nice not having to worry about popping the diffs on rocks, because I had plenty of other things to worry about. I found dropping off the steep steps a bit un easing, not only did sitting in front of the front wheels make you feel like you where nosing straight into the ground, but the rear tires where literally coming off the ground, some of the off chamber spots I felt like it was going to fall over, but it didn't thank God. A fellow guide told me that he witnessed a Pinzy perched on its nose with the rear wheels off the ground, now I believe him. With the Steps behind me it was time for the worlds tightest Switchback, and a Pinzy can turn tight so I was sure it would excel in the corner. There is no vehicle that can just turn this corner, you have to work your self around, in a Burb you would pull down into the elbow, crank the wheels and back up into the inside wall of the corner till the trailer hitch runs into the wall ( we call that a rocky mountain curb feeler ), crank the wheels again ( I did mention that the Pinzy has no Power Steering ) pull forward to the edge as close as you dare, back and forward a few more times and you would be around. I was thinking one back in the Pinzy and it should be on around, but as I was backing it got cocked over by a little step and once again felt like it was going to fall over, so I had to stop way before I felt my curb feeler, it takes me 4, count them 1,2,3,4, backs to get around this stinking corner.

This is the view of the Stair Steps through the windshield of the pinzy on Black Bear pass, the little town at the bottom is Telluride or To Hell U Ride Colo.

That was it, the infatuation was over, I felt betrayed, I felt guilty that I cheated on my old faithful Burb. But what is done is done, and next summer you will once again find me wheeling around in a Pinzgauer. Why you may ask? Because I am a professional driver and the Pinzgauer is what I am paid to drive. See you in the Hills.

Time has come to take away manufacturing faults of this otherwise fine automobile. Common 44 inch modification was not quite up to par. Engine and driveline (mostly front wheel bearings) proved to small and to weak.

The story begins here...

...modifications up to this point will only be remembered as "patches"

Operation has begun.

Elvar Aegisson at Aegir Mechanical Shop has started to tear and rip it apart.

Front axle.

Everything is built out of extra thick material. Air-bags, deflation system, Dana 60 etc.

Note how the radius arms are pointing slightly down. Making the suspension softer and the axle movement easier.

Elvar in action.

Lots of welding...

...keeping great care of accuracy.

Hafsteinn is painting a special Anti-Slip Coating (containing quartz particles) on the inner tire seat on the rim.

Toti from Benni's auto shop is looking for space to fit the tires.

Articulation.

A jack is used to try the axle in various positions to see if some sheet metal can be left in the fenders.

6.5 liter

Larus Arnason (from Kistufell), also known as Lalli Diesel, rebuilt a 6.5 liter engine. Changing all bearings, pistons and with lower pressure. Both heads are brand new and everything in them, valves and stuff. Also the fuel delivery system is new and improved.

On its way back to the modification shop after the fender sheet metal cutting.

Rear tires in place makes the SUV look like a HOT ROD!

Aegir and Oskar try on the 49 inch tires. Making it possible to measure fender flares size and positions and other things.

Now it is standing on all four 49 inches for a grand total of 196 inches!

All this rubber certainly makes the SUV look smaller in comparison.

Steinar Aegisson, Aegir and Arni from local car inspection company, Adalskodun discussing things.

Arni gives solid advice about the modification plans to keep everything street legal in Iceland. Usually vehicle total width must be less than 255 cm. Total width of this truck will be 257 cm which is possible with a special permission.

Oskar from Smith & Norland, Jon Thor and Aegir idea exchanging.

Two brothers.

XSTREAM looks awesome from all angles.

The only way to make this truck street legal (important to me) is to register it as a Chevrolet. Engine, axles, transmission, parts of the frame etc. all come from a Chevy. A Chevy has the loading capacity and allowed total weight needed to carry 6
passengers like it used to. The Patrol body makes it a Patrol in my mind. I hold the steering wheel, sit in and watch out of Patrol windows.
Good thing because I think a Patrol is a good looking SUV. Not perfect, but good looking. We are therefore only making perfections where the manufacturer didn't finish the work. I suppose this can be said about all 4x4s (and their owners). You have to work on and modify them to make them truly useable.

Part II will include new engine, transmission, extra low gear, insanely low gear ratios, air in bags and tires, fender flares etc. etc. etc.

Finishing up all the final touches from the last adventure improving the beast try to have no flaws on the 30min walk in to the camp ya right you built the truck to here it work the sound of a chevy big block three gear gear drive 44 inch tires gripping and ripping the earth beneath it listening to the mud ouzz of the trees to the ground the slap of a 30 pound mud cake bouncing off the tsl land beneath you, you let out a fulfilling sigh as you wipe off the mud from your face you look at your friends watching and perpetuating cheering them on as the 44 inch tires get swallowed up by the trail and you can't forget the smell oh the smell of mud burning on the exhaust, quickly thinking porcelain headers who need them we got glass from almost every trail that you have been on. the thirty minute walk can be as muck fun as 20min in to the sight or you might as well make it an all day adventure making sure that you use up all of mothers resources leaving only tracks and mud dripping from the rocks and trees from all around.

The shear excitement, the adrenalin rush the power that overwhelms you as you get close on the highway leading to the soupy, muddy, deep, bug infested, secluded best trail the one that makes you reach into your creative mind and build the mobile hotel to take you into the abyss of mother nature's finest remote camp site to precariously park on a peninsula with rocks from an other adventure leveling out the hotel just remember 18 inches of lift and 44s parked on rocks watch that first step and have an alternate exit!

I live here in Rochester, NY we have some hard winters here and they use lots of salt here on the roads. so to find cheap rusty trucks is no problem.

I took a rusty 1989 GMC S10 blazer, put a 3.5 inch shackle lift in rear and a torsion tweak in the front to get the lift needed for the 31 inch 15x8 with 4 inch off-set tires. And trimmed out the front fenders. That's the look I wanted with the tires sticking out far I think it looks rugged and stable.

Made a custom diamond mesh grill and cut-bent & grinded into place. Took 8 foot diamond bed rails and cut them to fin the back to cover up the holes from the roof, I had just enough to also do the back. Also took a used jeep roll bar cut it up to fit the blazer and welded up stock to brace up the inside of the door posts.

The paint is called (John Deere Blitz Black) yep from the lawnmower store, paint works great if you like flat black trucks and cars.

PRICE LIST:

RUSTY S10 BLAZER $350

BONDO + MATERIALS $50

My back yard is in Dunbarton, NH we were bored one day and had no place to go wheelin' so we made a place. Haha - I got my truck out of a junkyard and it was stock, then I found a junk truck for $150 with a six inch lift and put it in my truck and then took the tires off of my other truck and put 'em on.
